The Gentleman Fled on Foot

The Gentleman Fled on Foot The Gentleman Fled on Foot The Gentleman Fled on Foot By Maeve Maddox My neighborhood TV news group never lets me down with regards to unfortunate abuse of the English language. This week they gave an account of a man who killed his two-month-old child by squashing his ribs and hammering his head against the side of his bunk. Youll never think about what the journalist called this tremendous sicko in the prologue to the story. She alluded to him as Frustrated Dad. Definitely a more impartial thing than father would have been best in this contextparent, for instance. (So far as that is concerned, disappointed appears to be gentle for the conditions, yet that is another post.) Newswriters would do well to gauge their selection of words against the setting of the story being accounted for on. Mothers, fathers, and children may be adequate in giving an account of Little League or a school outing, yet such folksy terms dont have a place in anecdotes about kid misuse, destitution, or adolescent wrongdoing. The title of this post originates from a report about a man who looted a bank office and got away by walking. I cannot recollect whether it was the columnist or the police officer being met, yet one of them said the noble man fled by walking. This peculiar utilization of the word courteous fellow to allude to a burglar is like the inclination of authors to apply the honorific Mr. to criminals. The purpose of this lab activity was to measure anaerobic power per unit of time

The reason for this lab action was to gauge anaerobic force per unit of time. This has to do with the strong quality of the body and the rate the body uses ATP and the anaerobic glycolysis framework. The Wingate test is performed by a warm up time of a few minutes followed by a resting time of one to two minutes. The information is taken by extra subjects tallying the quantity of pedal turns all through the 30 seconds. This is the manner by which the force yield is estimated for the quadriceps muscles. The primary concern for the test is that the subject must stay at maximal speed for the whole 30 seconds. This test is helpful for a competitor who is attempting to improve muscle solidarity to keep up or gain speed and force. As one glances at the percentile outlines of standards, he/she can assess his or herself among different competitors. This graph is valuable since it is a beginning stage for preparing and improving the quality expected to suffer and pick up muscle quality. At long last, the weariness record which mirrors the muscles capacity to oppose weakness, which my rate rose to 53.33, was at a low protection from muscle exhaustion. In end to the consequences of the Wingate anaerobic test, I discovered that this test isn't actually the favored trial of

Character Analysis The Odyssey - 2498 Words

When sons think about growing up and becoming adults, their fathers are their perfect role models. A son wants to have the same job as his father, have the same personality, and be able to impress his father to the best of his ability. When a father is absent from his son’s childhood, the son may try to live up to the stories he hears about his dad, while in other cases, the son may try to avoid any thought of how his father is portrayed. Without a father, a child often seeks out mentors to compensate for the lack of guidance. In The Odyssey, Telemachus grows up hearing stories about his father. His mother, Penelope, and servants in the palace build an image, in Telemachus’ mind, that his father, Odysseus, is a great fighter and hero. With the help of a goddess and mentor, Athena, Telemachus aspires to impress his father by becoming the man he thinks Odysseus would want him to be. Holden, on the other hand, does not have a great relationship with his father. After Holde n’s brother, Allie, dies, Holden is sent away to boarding school and learns how to grow up on his own. Unlike Telemachus who hopes to someday join forces with his father, Holden wants nothing to do with his father. Telemachus and Holden both look to adults for the guidance they do not receive from their absent fathers, but while Athena helps Telemachus become a confident, brave man, like his father, Holden fails to find a mentor who can help him become the bravely non-conformist man he’d like to be; unlike TheShow MoreRelatedThe Odyssey Character Analysis924 Words   |  4 PagesThe Odyssey by Homer is, an epic poem, set in ancient Greece around the eighth century. A Psychoanalytical Analysis Of Edgar Allan Poe s The...

A Psychoanalytical Analysis of Edgar Allan Poe s Use of Characterization in The Cask of Amontillado and The Tell-Tale Heart The mind is like an iceberg, it floats with one-seventh of its bulk above water. -From Sigmund Freud Sigmund Freud s topography model of the mind explains that a person s psyche has three levels of consciousness: 1.) the conscious, which holds what a person is aware of; 2.) the preconscious, which stores thoughts and information; and 3.) the unconscious, which warehouses urges, feelings, and ideas. Freud compares the mind to an iceberg with 10 percent of a person s psyche consisting of the conscious mind. This includes thoughts and perceptions. The next level is 10 to 15 percent, and it is referred to as†¦show more content†¦Shameful experences are driving forces of the unconscious level. As Montresor attempts to cope with the anxiety and pain he has endured due to Fortunato s insults, he experiences shame. Outwardly confessing that he has endured insults in the past, Montresor admits: The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could (415). He is ashamed of how many times he has dealt with Fortunato s abuse, and this shame has overtaken his mind to the point o f him acting out in revenge. Thus, his unconscious mind, where he has stored shameful experiences, has overtaken the other parts and resulted in violence. Likewise, in The Tell-Tale Heart, the narrator s unconscious level, which warehouses fear, overtakes his rationality in order to cope with the anxiety he feels about the old man. Fear is a driving force in the unconscious mind, and when fear is allowed to come to the forefront and dictate one s behavior, consequences result. The narrator explains that he loves the old man and has no desire for his money; however, he is so repulsed by the eye that he is fearful. He explains: Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold (317). His fear of the eye is so great that he resorts to murder, thus giving into violent motives

Text Explication Essay for Sonnet 60 free essay sample

William Shakespeare Professor C. Soldan Poetry is â€Å"the art  of rhythmical composition, written or spoken, for exciting pleasure by beautiful, imaginative, or elevated thoughts†. This paper will focus on poet William Shakespeare (1564-1616) who was famous in the Renaissance Period prior to the year 1750. Shakespeare was found to have 154 written sonnets, which dealt with themes such as the time, love, beauty and mortality. However, a personal favourite of Shakespeare’s sonnets is sonnet 60, a sonnet that falls under the theme of passing time and addresses the â€Å"fair youth† whom is spoke to or about in a large percentage of Shakespearean sonnets. This sonnet will be critically analyzed and poetic genre will be analyzed. Part One Explication The first quatrain of Sonnet 60 begins by using imagery to compare one’s life to the waves of the ocean, and how these waves crash against the â€Å"pebbled shore† which is similar to the way that the minutes of our lives quicken as we age. We will write a custom essay sample on Text Explication Essay for Sonnet 60 or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Shakespeare continues by using the pebbles along the shore to resemble the hardships that people will face throughout a lifetime. To end the first quatrain, he explains that the waves of the ocean will always continue to crash in the same way that troubling events in one’s life will continue to occur, the movement of the waves or actions of the human do not change as time passes. The second quatrain is used to describe how an individual’s childhood begins, from the stage of being born until they begin to crawl and develop, in the same way that a sun starts as being bright and the main source of light but gradually becomes dimmer and shadows arise. Shakespeare is comparing the passing of time in one’s life to the way that the sun moves, as it rises to light the world and is then dimmed by the night. It is believed that he is trying to explain it in the sense that we are fighting to keep our youth as is the sun trying to keep its light, however time has begun to defeat us. Furthermore, in the third quatrain Shakespeare compares time to a monster. The monster is described to be killing the beauty and peacefulness of youth. In addition, this monster is said to be changing the beauty of youth by replacing beauty with â€Å"parallels on the brow†, or wrinkles. In the outstanding couplet, Shakespeare attempts to challenge time. He indicates that even though time may change the physical beauty and youthfulness of the one(s) he loves, he will continue to love them as he always has. When analyzing the type of rhyme, quatrain one (lines 1-4) is considered to be a compound rhyme, quatrain two contains compound rhyme as well as imperfect rhyme. The imperfect rhyme is found with the word crown’d and confound, words that sound similar but do not look the same and contain a difference in metrical feet. The third quatrain, lines nine and eleven are compound rhyme while lines ten and twelve are feminine rhyme. The ending couplet is a compound rhyme. Sonnet 60 is written mainly in Iambic Pentameter, however it also includes multiple troches, which are used throughout the sonnet to help develop the main theme. A prime example of this use for troches is shown within the first two lines of the sonnet and is used in order to draw attention to the waves moving quickly and the attacks on time. Furthermore, troches are also present in the beginning of lines six and seven to draw attention to the theme of birth, more specifically the waves nearing the shore and children quickly growing. The non-linear pattern in the second quatrain assist in drawing attention to the slowness and recurring breaks which mimics life as time passes. Most importantly, all three quatrains convey the main theme of the sonnet within the meter– the theme of passing time. Furthermore, Shakespeare uses a great deal of personification throughout Sonnet 60 in order to draw the reader even further into the poem. The main usage for personification is time. Shakespeare begins to personify time at the end of the second quatrain by using a capital T for the word time, which would in turn make the word a proper noun. He furthers this by referring to time as â€Å"He† which creates time into a living thing. Additionally, Shakespeare states in line 11 that Time â€Å"Feeds on the rarities of nature’s truth† which is indicating that Time has the ability to eat as a human would. The personification used throughout this sonnet gives time a much deeper meaning and makes the theme of passing time much more open to the reader. William Shakespeares Sonnet 60 deals with the passing of time and its effects on the youthfulness of ones life. This sonnet uses the imagery of waves beating against the shore to show the efforts to delay Time and longer enjoy the youth of ones life. Through the significant use of rhyme, personification and imagery, Shakespeare attempts to explain the importance of time and ones youthfulness to the reader. I believe that Sonnet 60 was written exceptionally well by including many different figures of speech that allowed for the effective production of the theme. A variety of tones allowed for an open mind while reading, but in contrast the use of rhyme and creative metaphors caused the reader to become involved with the poem.

International Trade Essays - Economy Of Hong Kong,

International Trade Introductuion Hong Kong, the pearl of Asia has been the center of trade and finance in Asia since the early 20th century. In a short history of about 150 years, Hong Kong has become the source of growth for many nearby economies. In a certain sense, it can be even said that it is a merchant city founded and managed by businessmen. Traditional hongs or trade houses of Hong Kong were the pillar of the economy. Jardine Matheson and Hutchison were major hongs that led the economy and the Hong Kong & Shanghi Bank were the financier of these hongs and has today grown to become one of the largest bank in the world. These firms were the critical factors of the growth for Hong Kong's economy. Their role however has changed overtime. They are no longer the de facto leaders of Hong Kong as they were in the mid 1800's. Their role has diminished as Hong Kong grew to become more international, and the 1997 handover to the People's Republic of China has further altered their position. Some hongs that adapted well to the changing times prospered while others either went bankrupt or become stagnant. Background on Hong Kong Economy The territory of Hong Kong is located at the mouth of the Pearl River, a little southwest of the Guangdong Province of the PRC. Hong Kong was ceded to the British after the Opium War in 1842. Many believe that the British hongs were behind lobbying the British government into fighting the Chinese Government and the settlement of the island. Kowloon was annexed in 1860, and the New territories were leased for 99 years in 1898. In 1984, the British and the PRC government agreed that Hong Kong as a whole would return to Chinese soverienty in 1997. However, a system of one country two systems were also agreed upon where Hong Kong would retain its status as a free port, with it's laws remaining unchanged for 50 years. It's main emphasis is to preserve Hong Kong's laws and economic freedom, thus to enhance the position of Hong Kong as a economic center. The Large British owned hongs were originally trade and warehouse companies established by the British in the early days of Hong Kong colonialism, they have since grown in to major commerical conglomerates. They hold interest in cargo handling, manufacturing, real estate, and even retailing. They are the engine of the Hong Kong economy. Since Britain took over the port city in 1842 to use as a gateway to the Chinese markets, the business of Hong Kong had been business, and the power was held by the hongs. The first traditional hong was the Jardine Matheson. It was once seen to be more influential than the colonial government but nowadays it has become a minor player compared to Li Ka Shing's Hutchision Whampoa. Li Ka Shing, the Chairman or Taipan of Hutchision Whampoa, became the first Chinese to own a traditional hong. Li's drive and business ability helped foster Hutchision into a global conglomerate. Hong Kong Bank grew from a small trader's bank into one of the Top ten banks in the world today. Jardine Matheson Jardine, Matheson & Co. was founded by 2 Scottish merchants, William Jardine and James Matheson in Guangdong in 1832. It was an opium trader that were the pioneers into the China trade. Eventually James Matheson takes control from 1836. It played a key role in the founding of Hong Kong and became the first to purchase land from the colonial government in 1842. Jardine expanded into other trade products in other Asian countries like Japan and South East Asian countries and also enters the ship/cargo handling industry and the real estate business. After World War II, Jardine moved their head office from Shanghi back to Hong Kong and it offically goes public in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1961. The 1970's saw Jardine forming many ventures and aquisitions such as the joint venture with the Robert Fleming of UK to create the Jardine Fleming & Co., a holding company the aquires many foreign and local firms and diversifies Jardine's business. The mid- 1980's saw some mismanagments and misguided aquisition especially after the 1984 Sino-British announcement on the

Vaping Epidemic in Today’s Youth Professor Ramos Blog

Vaping Epidemic in Today’s Youth In today’s society, a huge problem is on the rise and if not stopped could lead to many problems. Children as young as 12 are being exposed to e-cigarettes. They’re drawn in from the good tasting flavors and cool smoke tricks. Since the creation of the vape in 2007, the products have become evolutionized and are very accessible. Studies have found that 1 in every 4 high schoolers use e-cigarettes. A product that was created to fix the problem of adults smoking cigarettes has created an even larger epidemic that has very bad consequences. As reported by the California Tobacco Control Program, â€Å"The tobacco industry is hooking the next generation of addicts, and flavors are a big way in† (Learn about the Social and Health Effects of Vaping). The e-liquid in vape products usually contains propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin-based liquid with nicotine, flavoring and other chemicals and metals, but not tobacco. In the article, Kids Who Vape Face Toxin Dangers, Study Finds, Rubinstein says, One of the reasons why more teens are using these products is they feel that they are safe and/or safer than smoking† (Thompson). So, children are thinking it’s non harmful and it sure doesn’t taste like it is either; which is luring kids into thinking it’s fun and has no consequences.   This new invention, made to eliminate a problem in adults, has now caused an addiction in children who statistically would have never smoked a cigarette or come into contact with nicotine. When comparing studies and statistics from forty years ago to current research, it is obvious just how prevalent the use of these new vape products really is in today’s youth. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, â€Å"Forty years ago, nearly 29 percent of high school seniors reported smoking cigarettes daily†¦ By 2018, less than 1 in 25 high schoolers smokes daily† (Campbell). As stated by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention a decline has begun â€Å"with 4.3 percent fewer middle schoolers and 15.8 percent fewer high schoolers admitting to smoking cigarettes between 2011 and 2018† (Campbell). It is obvious that this decline is only caused by the increase in use of vape products. Vaping is much easier to access, hide from others, and smoke compared to cigarettes; so it makes that the statistics have gone down for cigarette smoking in today’s youth. Dr Richard Miech, at the Institute for Social Research at the Unive rsity of Michigan, he found â€Å"Of the students who had ever used a vaporiser in their life, 65–66% in each grade reported vaping ‘just flavouring’ at last use† (Miech). The same organization released information from current time and â€Å"In 2018, 4.9 percent of middle schoolers reported using electronic cigarettes, and 20.8 percent of high schoolers reported the same† (Campbell). Statistics have also shown that between the year 2017 to 2018, †E-cig usage by high school students increased 78%† (Learn about the Social and Health Effects of Vaping). In 2018, 1 in 4 high school students have used a nicotine vape at least once. Shockingly, kids report vaping as young as 12 years old and continue all throughout middle and high school. So, are these new electronic cigarettes a solution to help adults quit smoking or is it a gateway into an entire other problem in teens developing nicotine addictions that come with dangerous consequences? Although, most adults and children believe that vaping has no effects on your health. Vape products use aerosol, specified as a â€Å"fine spray†, which â€Å"actually consists of fine particles containing toxic chemicals, many of which have been linked to cancer, as well as respiratory and heart diseases† (Campbell). It is scientifically proven that once your body is addicted to nicotine and you take a break or try to stop, nicotine withdrawals begin. These effects include: mood swings and feeling depressed. Some research has also shown that nicotine may cause negative effects to your arteries, but mostly your heart and lungs. It is also proven to affect the development of children’s brains, specifically memory and attention. Although vapes don’t contai n as many chemicals or the same chemicals as a real cigarette, â€Å"Some brands contain chemicals including formaldehyde often used in building materials and another ingredient used in antifreeze that can cause cancer† (Wheeler). The flavoring in e-cigs has also â€Å"raise red flags. Some use a buttery-tasting chemical called diacetyl, which is often added to foods like popcorn. When its inhaled, it can be dangerous† (Wheeler). The large percentage of children in today’s world who are continuing to vape and develop nicotine addictions from these products will end up paying for their actions when they experience these terrible health effects. No one is talking about how popular this problem really is and how many children are going to be affected by the harsh chemicals being used to create the tasty flavored e-cigarettes. Yes, most of the dangerous chemicals we know that are in cigarettes are mostly inhaled through the burning smoke that contains them. And we also know â€Å"E-cigs dont burn, so people arent as exposed to those toxins. A 2015 expert review from Public Health England estimated e-cigs are 95% less harmful than the real thing†( Wheeler). But, regardless of how much better vapes are compared to cigarettes, insanely large amounts of children who would’ve never smoked cigarettes to begin with are becoming addicted to nicotine that will have present and future consequences. Currently the FDA is working on the problem and has begun trying to bring the problem to attention and hopefully find a way to decrease the numbers of vaping in youth. According to the article, Regulation of E-Cigarettes in the United States and Its Role in a Youth Epidemic, â€Å"FDA submitted letters to the ï ¬ ve companies that supply more than 95% of the U.S. ENDS [e-cigarette] market, asking them to each provide a plan to the agency detailing how they will â€Å"address the widespread youth access and use of their products† (Gottlieb). If the responses were inadequate, the FDA indicated that it might revisit its policy of allowing these products into the market. Gottlieb claimed that â€Å"Shortly after the FDA letters were sent, Altria, maker of the MarkTen e-cigarette product line, announced that it would stop selling most ï ¬â€šavored ENDS entirely. It was only two months after that announcement, however, that it purchased its $12 billion stake in Juul Lab† (Gottlieb). Even the FDA tried making a difference in the epidemic that is very prevalent amongst children in America and no change was made by the companies producing the products. In order to create a decrease in statistics, people of all ages need to make an effort to talk about the problem and start the conversation about the negative effects. The companies making the electronic cigarettes also need to make announcements, disclosing the dangers of their products and make it known that it is not for use by children and can cause problems in child users. If people keep brushing the debate of whether vaping is dangerous for children, it is going to be too late for today’s youth. We must start talking about the problem and not stop until a change is made and more people are worried about children becoming addicted to nicotine. This epidemic is being looked over and it is not okay. Macedonian Army Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Macedonian Army - Essay Example Between 30,000 and 43,000 infantry followed Alexander into Asia Minor to fight the Persians. He had only 70 talents for their pay, and no more than thirty days' provisions. These scarce resources destroyed any hope from his army. However this also motivated them to fight desperately before all their supplies finished. The 40,000 Persian infantry and cavalry were desiccated. The Macedonian army's confidence raised head high and this confidence scared all the cities on the coast into submission to Alexander. Alexander wanted to go into the heart of Persia to defeat their king Darius. However a secretive illness to Alexander prevented such an excursion for the time. All of Alexander's attendants were afraid to try any remedies, because if their remedy failed, and Alexander died, the Macedonians might blame the physician. During this time the Macedonian army was becoming demoralized day by day thinking whether Alexander could defeat his illness or would he let them rot deprived of a leader. The morale of Macedonian army soared sky high after they defeated the Persians and forced King Darius to flee. Darius knew that Alexander would come for his so he prepared an army of a million men. When the two armies came in sight and the noise and campfires of the vast barbarian camp were heard, fear started to creep into some of Alexander's generals.

Stress reduction techniques Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Stress reduction techniques - Research Paper Example Distress is a negative type of stress that can be short term or long term. This type of stress is caused by frequent undesired changes. Hyperstress occurs when a person is "pushed beyond what he or she can handle" (National Center). Hypostress occurs when a person is not pushed at all. Boredom is an example of hypostress. These types of stress can cause direct health problems, such as weakening the immune system and indirect health problems, such as leading a person to alcohol or drug abuse (Smyth, Joshua and Kelly Filipkowski, 272). There are many different ways that people cope with these types of stress. According to Band and Weisz, there are three main ways of coping with stress: primary control coping, secondary control coping, or relinquished control. With primary control coping, the individual attempts to change the circumstance that is causing the stress. With secondary control coping, the individual attempts to adjust to the current circumstance that is stressful. With relin quished control, the individual neither attempts to change the circumstance or adjust to it. The individual instead tries to ignore the problem. This paper will cover five popular techniques for reducing stress. One of the most popular techniques for reducing stress is meditation. This exercise is usually used with secondary control or relinquished control coping. There are three basic types of meditation: mantra meditation, sitting meditation, and breath-counting meditation (Davis, Eshelman and McKay). In mantra meditation, the individual settles into a comfortable position and repeats a special word or phrase to clear the mind of other thoughts and induce relaxation. Sitting meditation is the simplest type. The individual settles into a comfortable sitting position, then focusing on his or her breathing to induce relaxation. The last type is breath-counting meditation. This is similar to the sitting type, except the individual counts to a specified number, usually 5 or 10, for

Picture & musical instrument Essay Example for Free

Picture musical instrument Essay In this picture, it showcases a man playing a musical instrument called bagpipes which are prominent and widely used in Scotland and Ireland. Based on the composition of the image, the man is probably a musician from an average social class because his choice clothing is typically worn by commoners probably during the Renaissance period. Generally, this illustration depicts an ordinary event in a musician’s life in the early periods. There are many components in this image that can tell the story of this single picture. Lines, shapes, color, shading and proportions are the elements that give life to a portrait. For the hat, it is a simple head ornament made from a plain fabric. The color gray with touches of brown suggest that it must had been used numerous times. The color combination gives it an aged look making it in a way look stylish. More so, the flower with a hint of light purple and baby pink colored petals that is surrounded by a couple of olive green leaves provided a natural component in the musician’s head cover. At first, it may seem that the beautiful flower is wilting probably because of its downward position but if viewers would look closely, the loveliness of the flower resides on its perfect color combination which exudes harmony. Additionally, a two-toned colored feather is also present on the hat. It is seamlessly intertwined with the flower. The feather added life on this very minimal hat through the blending of the colors gold and cream. Furthermore, the soft brushstrokes on the strands of the feathers give a sense of movement. It contrasted the stiff but delicate position of the flower. Moreover, the feather and the flower can be considered as accents of the hat that showcases the creativity of the musician and his love for things that possess simple yet striking beauty. On another note, hats are usually are worn outdoors during sunny days to protect the face from the rays of the sun. But on this picture, the black background suggests that the time was around in the evening or he was probably indoors which justifies the dark backdrop. Meanwhile, the relatively large brim of the hat had cast a shadow on the musician’s face. In a way, his wrinkles were partly concealed from the viewers’ line of sight. But if it will be examined closely, the series of lines on the forehead and on the mouth area can be considered as the focal points of the facial features. These lines indicate that the musician is probably in his late 40s or early 50s. On the other hand, the eyes tell a different story. It is hard to tell whether the arch of the left eyebrow and the roundness of the eyes signify an emotion. He can either be feeling tired or impassive during his performance. The semi-closed mouth with ripples of lines along the cheek area also adds up to the anonymity of the musician’s emotions. No outstanding feature can really be distinguished making it hard to determine the prominent mood of the painting. Overall, the musician’s face was painted in details. The realistic skin-toned color of the face accented by a small blush of red on the cheeks, the protruding nose, big black eyes, arched eyebrows, nude lips and the fine facial lines made an accurate representation of a male’s physical appearance. Furthermore, the layers of wardrobe added more personality into the painting. The musician is wearing three layers of garments. In the first layer is a white collared long sleeve shirt which is covered by a red V-shaped long sleeve with a wide collar. The bottom of the red shirt is tightened by a garter producing sections of scrunched up fabrics. Also, it seems that there is a set of embroidery at the bottom of the red shirt which serves as the accents to this plain piece of clothing. It is evident from the collar line to the sleeves that the musician is wearing layered clothes. Also, the combination of red and white complements very well. The simplicity of the white is balanced off by the intensity of the red. The third layer is a coat which has the same color as the hat with a dominant grayish tone but with touches of light brown and white. Also, the utilization of dark colors gave a slimming effect on the musician which made him look less stocky. The lining of the coat has a similar shade with the red shirt but more on the orange side. Probably this was intended to give continuity and proper blending of the colors used in the outfit. The whole look of the clothes did not seem stiff because of the folds seen all over the layers of clothing. The folds were intricately added to add movement in order for the clothes to look like as if they were moving with the musician. More so, these folds or lines contrasted the heaviness of the coat which gave a fluid quality to the whole picture. An unusual element was present on the left sleeve of the coat. This object has a circular shape with three layers of different sizes ranging from small to large. At one end is a hole where a red ribbon was tied which was pinned into the coat. Most likely this object is a type of medal that represents the musician’s profession or his achievements or this could just be an ornament used for fashion purposes. Regardless of its function, the circular object adds a touch of splendor to the whole garment. Moreover, the layers of clothing suggest that the weather was cold and that the musician needed the three levels of shirts to provide heat in order for him to properly play his bagpipes. Meanwhile, the bagpipe was illustrated in a neutral mocha brown color. Four pipes of varying heights and appearance were strategically strewn all over the irregularly shaped leather bagpipe. Because of the different sizes of pipes, it gave an illusion of elevation giving some dimension to a flat medium. Also, the creases on the bagpipe added some movement and tension to the image. Furthermore, the hands of the musician holding the main pipe were precisely demonstrated. The veins, the nails and even the lines on the knuckles were accurately portrayed. The viewers can really notice these details which suggest that these hands have been through a lot of experience in playing musical instruments. Despite the rigidity of the details on the hands, the way the hands were positioned displayed softness and finesse which is a true mark of a talented musician.

Government must seekto meet citizens needs :: essays research papers

SOME INVESTORS have applied to the government for permission to operate ferry services between Tuen Mun and Macau and the Pearl River Delta (PRD). However, the Transport Bureau has delayed approving their applications, greatly to the applicants' and residents' resentment. If there were such services, things would be much more convenient for north-western New Territories residents who want to go to Macau or the PRD, and it would be in line with Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa's strategic plan of making better use of the PRD hinterland. People cannot help asking why it remains impossible to offer the public such ferry services. The government has been saying it wants to remove obstacles to the market's smooth operation. However, it has delayed approving those applications, whose approval would bring about new jobs. How does the government propose to justify itself? Nearly one million people live in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long and adjacent areas (north-western New Territories). At present, a citizen living there must take a one-hour vehicle ride to Tsim Sha Tsui or Central if he wants to go to Macau or the PRD by ferry. Such a ride takes almost as much time as a ferry journey from Central to Macau. More important, Tuen Mun is nearer Macau and the Pearl River's mouth. It would take 10 minutes to 15 minutes less time for a jetfoil to travel from Tuen Mun to Macau than from Central. If there were a Macau ferry terminal there, north-western New Territories citizens going to Macau could save more than one hour and some money. Two companies have applied to the government for permission to operate ferry services from Tuen Mun to Macau and Nansha. Last year 19 million citizens left Hong Kong by sea. Most of them went to Macau or the PRD. As one out of seven Hong Kong citizens live in north-western New Territories, one may infer that last year more than two million north-western New territories residents travelled to Macau or the PRD by ferry. If the government decided to have a new Macau ferry terminal in Tuen Mun, things would be much more convenient for them, and investors could do business. However, nothing has been heard about those companies' applications since they were submitted. In response to our inquiries, a Transport Bureau spokesperson said that, since the two existing Macau ferry terminals would not become saturated until 2011, there was no urgent need of building another.

Effects of premarital sex and early sexual relationships on teeenagers Essay

The present day unipolar system has left USA as the only super power capable of conducting or organizing political military action anywhere in the world.. However, hegemony is present in a system where there is a unipolar structure of influence to match the unipolar structure capabilities for example in the 1990s the United Nations was gradually displaced from its primary responsibility for maintaining peace and security in favour of a revitalized NATO which provided the multilateral cover for US military action in the Balkans. In the war aganst Iraq, the process was taken a step further as NATO was itself sidelined in favour of a coalition of the willing(Bull,2000;23). Politically, because all states recognize that it is in their overriding self-interest to maximize their power, that’s what Waltz says they do. To do anything else is crazy because a state without enough power is a vulnerable state. And, anyway, it is too scary for states not to try to maximize their power. For instance as China continues to expand its military spending $91.  5 billion in 2011,this only represents about one seventh of the total US defense budget(estimated to reach $663. 8 bilion by the end of the year)according to China: USA FOCUS a non profit organization based in Hong-Kong. Hence this is what Waltz calls the â€Å"security dilemma( waltz,1979:123). † He argues that when one state sees another state trying to increase its power to increase its security, it gets scared, feelsthreatened, and recognizes that it too must increase its power. But, of course, thatscares the other states, and basically there is this mad spiral in which all states are T rying to have more power than all other states. According to Waltz, this competition for power among states is not always as dangerous as it at first sounds. In the international system, every state is sovereign and this implies that sovereign states are not answerable to any higher power. When one sovereign state intervenes in another sovereign state monitoring the domestic affairs of that certain country, it shows the aspect of political hegemony. One good example is that of America which has been intervening in various sovereign states under the disguise of protecting human rights. In doing so it seems like America is becoming a police man of the world. A realist scholar Hobbes (1952) postulates that the powerful will always do what they want and the weak will always comply. In other respects politics and economy are said to have existed in two separate spheres and are not logically connected to one another. In the option of the Marxist and leftists writers on one hand politics and economics are intimately linked. The insatiable desire of capitalists for continuous accumulation has been the force behind the political endeavors in every capital economy state. According to the theory of hegemonic stability, as I am using it in this article, the creation and maintenance of an open and liberal world economy such as the one that has characterized most of the world economy since the end of World War II requires a powerful leader. This leader uses its power and influence to promote trade liberalisation and a stable international monetary system primarily in order to advance its own political and economic interests. The leader, however, can seldom coerce reluctant states to obey the rules of a liberal international economic order and must seek their co-operation. These other states co-operate with the hegemony because it is in their own economic and security interests to do so. For example, although the American hegemony played a crucial role in establishing and managing the world economy following World War 2, it did so with the strong co-operation of its Cold War. Coercion involves the study of threats and demands that encourage the adversary to either reverse its action or stop what it has been doing. Unlike Deterrence, which stresses the prevention of an attack or the use of threats by state A to dissuade its enemy, state B, from attacking, coercion consists of the use of threats by state A, or the coercer (e. g. state hegemony, NATO, UN), to reverse a n act of aggression by state B. To coerce a state, then, means to employ a range of diplomatic and military options. These may include economic/trade sanctions, blockades, embargoes, and precision air-strikes. The threat of exercising these options serves as either an inducement to the transgressor state to stop what it is doing, or as punishment for not taking the steps to comply with the coercer’s demands. Such options, therefore, reflect the costs and benefits of calculated threats, and are often referred to as ex ante demands. The ex ante mix of punishment and inducements, in this case, can either take the form of a carrot/stick or use for that approach.

Many Different Short Stories by Edgar Allan Poe - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 969 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2019/07/03 Category Literature Essay Level High school Topics: Edgar Allan Poe Essay Did you like this example? Edgar Allan Poe was an author who had many short stories and many works of literature. There will be six short stories analyzed in this paper written by him. These include The Angel of the Odd, The Tell-Tale Heart, Silence-A Fable, The Masque of the Red Death, The Fall of the House of Usher, and The Cask of Amontillado. These short stories have different themes and hidden messages that can be analyzed differently among them. The Angel of the Odd is a short story that is told by an unknown person describing a night in November which he says is chilly. The short story seems to be humorous, because of the way he describes the Angel of Odd in the quotes below referring to various kinds of alcohol while the narrator had been drinking. For example, when he describes the appearance of the Angel of the Odd he states that his body was wine-pipe, or a rum-puncheon, (Poe). Poe was trying to make a point that odd and unrealistic situations can happen especially when people have been drinking. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Many Different Short Stories by Edgar Allan Poe" essay for you Create order The Tell-Tale Heart is about an unnamed narrator who killed an old man. This short story seems to exhibits mostly paranoia and the possibly mental insanity of a person. This is reflected by the fact that the narrator was possessed to kill this old man because of his pale blue eyes and his loud heartbeat even though he has no apparent reason to kill this old man. This leads to another point explaining that sometimes a person will hurt the people that they are acquaintances with. This is evidenced by the fact that the narrator sees the mans evil eye and is not able to identify his actual personality from solely his eye. This is evident when Poe states that it was not solely the old man that tempted him but his Evil Eye (Poe). Silence-A Fable is a short story told by a demon who is watching a man who he describes has the features of a deity on a deserted land. The acts bestowed by the demon on this man in the beginning of the short story reflects human ability to tolerate fear in different situations. This idea is reflected when the man continues to stay calm and continues to sit on the rock when the demon cursed the elements with the curse of tumult (Poe) and called unto the hippopotami (Poe) to loudly roar at the man. Then, the demon created silence among the land, which in contrast, causes the man fear. This shows that complete silence is something that people are not used to, so when complete silence happens, they are not sure how to deal with it and try to escape it at all costs. Most people are used to a loud and disorderly environment which they know how to cope and deal with even if they may be frightened at times in their lives. The Masque of the Red Death is a short story about wealthy people who are being entertained in Prince Prosperos palace that are described to have walls with gates of iron(Poe), which is supposedly blocking them from the Red Death. The main point of this story is to portray that people and other creatures are not able to escape death wherever we may be. The seventh room which is black and terrifying in this beautiful palace supposedly blocked off from death and terror reiterates the fact that death can happen at any time and anywhere. In addition, the gigantic clock of ebony represents that life goes by quickly. Poe wants to remind of how fast an hour goes by when he states that it is three thousand and six hundred seconds of the Time that flies (Poe). He might be making a point to enjoy life at all costs, because you never know when it can be over. The Fall of the House of Usher is a short story told by a narrator who was childhood friends with the owner of the House of Usher. He starts off by creating a terrifying and horrific mood by explaining the house as a mansion of gloom (Poe). When he passes he feels a sense of insufferable gloom (Poe). Usher buries his twin sister and continues to hear and see her. This shows that guilt can effect a persons mood and mental health significantly. The narrator describes Usher as declining in health and his looks. In his letter to the narrator he describes to have a mental disorder (Poe) which shows Lady Madelines authority and power over him over the years in deterioration of his health. The Cask of Amontillado is narrated by a man called Montresor who is discussing how a man named Fortunato has upset him and he is out to get revenge on him. This story shows how people will take advantage of you in order to get what they want. This is reflected when Montresor invites Fortunato to taste the finest wines with him, so that he will be able to manipulate him into getting his revenge. Poe states that I continued to smile in his face, and he did not understand that I was now smiling at the thought of what I planned for him, at the thought of my revenge (Poe). This statement shows that we should not trust just anyone, and to watch our backs, because you can be blindsided in the blink of an eye. Poe has many different short stories in which he displays a couple different story lines and moods. It is evident that Poe likes to display a scary and dark mood in many of his stories, as he does in five out of the six short stories above. Overall, there can be many different interpretations and analyses of these short stories.

The Two Modes of Cognitive Processing Essay - 1792 Words

The Two Modes of Cognitive Processing Models and experiments presented throughout the Cognitive Psychology course indicate that within the Information Processing framework, 2 distinct modes of cognitive processing exist. The first, concerned with low level cognition is characterised by processing which is parallel, automatic, bottom-up and not very limited by capacity. This is most clearly demonstrated by the number of things we can hear simultaneously, see simultaneously, smell, taste and feel simultaneously. This type of low level cognition, along with skills which have been proceduralised, can also be performed automatically; performed without conscious attention. Automatic tasks do not†¦show more content†¦The distinction between these two modes of cognitive processing, however, is not that clear cut. For instance, tasks are not usually totally automatic nor totally attentional; when automatically swimming up and down a pool, we may be focusing our attention on a piece of music, but we are also aware of o ther swimmers and we usually pay enough attention to avoid swimming in to them. Neither is processing usually exclusively top-down or bottom-up, most tasks involve both types of processing in combination. Except maybe, when asleep, we are constantly receiving bottom-up data through our 5 senses. We are also constantly reacting to these stimuli by applying top-down interpretations from our stored general knowledge representations. On the face of it, perception would seem to depend heavily on bottom-up processing (receiving data from stimuli) and memory on top-down, conceptually-driven processing, as remembering depends on retrieval of stored information. But in fact, perception can be affected by the perceivers expectations or by general principles such as size constancy, and remembering is performed in context, taking account of environmental cues. Gregory (1973) made use of visual illusions, such as the Ponzo perspective illusion to show how top-down processes affect perception. His view was that perceptionsShow MoreRelatedCooperation Is At The Heart Of Human Social Life Essay1301 Words   |  6 Pagesrequire cognitive resources: „We fully expect that social mindfulness [†¦] will be undermined by competing sources of attention (cognitive load), time pressure, or alternative sources of distraction that conflict with executive functioning that enables people ’to see‘ the consequences of one‘s actions for othersâ€Å" (p. 21). Question: Discuss about the Critical Analysis of Cyber Bullying. Answer: Introduction With the advent of internet the way of doing work whether professional or personal has been changed. The introduction of internet was made to make the lives of human beings easy which in fact it did. The inventors of internet knew that in future people will survive a day without food but not without internet (kahn, n.d.). There is now rarely a sector, field, individual that is unaffected by this wave of internet which now seems to be never ending(Mark, 2014). When there is abundance of benefits provided by the internet, there are a number of threats that it has shown to us. One of those threats is cyber bullying. Not even a single country is free of such crimes. The easiest targets of such bullying are the teenagers or the adolescents(Johnson, 2013). It has been seen that such crimes are committed by the youngsters individually or a group of adults or a psychopath are mostly behind such crimes. Nowadays it is trend that the bullies follow that they dont harm a person physically but they harm them mentally and emotionally through cyber bullying(Krot, 2011). Around 20% of the teenagers in U.S have suffered from such bullying(Pire, 2013). Now you can imagine the fear of cyber bullying. Cyber Bullying is not only limited to threatening or harassing someone but it is also responsible for several deaths. In India around 7% of the teenagers, who committed suicide died of cyber bullying because the person threatening them has s omething with him very personal about the victim (MMS, Personal Images). There are different types of bullying and few them are as under(Serjeant, 2012). Flaming: Under this type of bullying the two parties, victim and the bully exchange aggressive words between them online. Impersonation: There are many benefits of technology but everything comes with a price to pay and same with the technology as it has various benefits on one hand similarly it has various demerits on the other. Technology allows they bully to make fake profiles of the victim which in known as impersonation. The bully then uses such profiles to spread hate messages or sexually explicit images. Making Fun: Under this kind of bullying the bully tries to make fun of his target by posting mean or stupid comments in the pictures or profiles of the targets or by sending them personal text or instant messages. Online Stalking: When someone tries to stalk someone online by sending them messages that harasses the receiver or by gathering each every, little information about them without coming into light is known as Online Stalking. Statistics of Cyber Bullying A most recent case on cyber bullying has been reported in Bangladesh, a person (identity hidden) was impersonating a girl (identity hidden) 18years. The girl committed suicide as the guy became her friend 1 year ago and in friendship, she shared her personal pictures and information with him, which this guy used against her by making her fake profiles and displaying her pictures online all over Bangladesh(BEGUM, 2017) As internet has reached to every house every country today, similarly the cons of it are not behind(Annoynomous., 2015). Teenagers from each every, country have been or will be the targets of cyber bullying. The first ever case of cyber bullying was reported in 2008. Since then the number is growing like a tree. Below is Chart that shows the statistics of cyber bullying in different countries(ALI, 2015) COUNTRIES UNDER-12 Yrs CYBER-BULLYING UNDER-15 Yrs CYBER-BULLYING UNDER-19Yrs CYBER-BULLYING S. It is a harsh reality that we all have to accept that internet have a darker side that we need to cope up as soon as possible, else it will end up destroying the mankind(Pappas, 2015). It was created for the sake of mankind but it will become the reason of mankinds end. So now as we are going forward the techniques for coping up with cyber bullying are also increasing in order to put an end on it(Patchin, 2015). Few are the steps that a person can follow in case he/she is targeted by cyber bullies: Report: as soon as you find yourself in a situation where you feel like been targeted for cyber bullying report it to the online community of that site. Keep Evidence: If someone has sent you text or instant messages, make sure you keep those messages safe with yourself as an evidence to use them against the bully when needed or demanded by the community or police. Report to law enforcement: Now every country around the world has made a different department that deals with law enforcement only. No online information: Another thing that one need to keep in mind while using internet or various social media platforms is to not to share his/her personal information with anyone. This sharing of information can lead to serious cause of stalking or harassing someone. Dont respond: If on any social media platform someone unknown to you tries to be your friend, or send you messages dont ever responds to them. As people you may know will personally ask you to accept you as their friend over social media. There are no guarantees that, who genuinely wants to be your friend or who is intended to harm your privacy by bullying you(jack, 2013). A person needs to follow all the above mentioned advices in order to keep him/herself free from the tension of cyber bullying. Conclusion After observing and going through all the facts and statistics regarding cyber bullying a brief conclusion is written here, Cyber bullying can be put to an end, if the teenagers start using the social media platform as means of talking to their close ones only. Sharing personal information or sharing your normal pictures can proves out to be harmful. Much more committees, rule and regulations, laws are need to be made, so that a person guilty of cyber bullying gets hard imprisonment for destroying someones life. Internet if used properly will always give us its benefits and if it miss-used then it is us (Mankind) only who has to bear its demerits. Bibliography ALI, H., 2015. Types of bullying. Keats hellenism free essay sample

‘’Keats is essentially a Greek among the English poets’’- discuss./ Discuss Keats’ use of classical elements in the odes you have read./ Write on Keats’ Hellenism in his odes. Keats, as is well known, was not a classical scholar, yet he has been famous for his Hellenism, a term which may be defined as a love of Greek art, literature, culture and way of life. Keats had an inborn love for the Greek spirit,-their Religion of Joy and their religion of Beauty. He once wrote to one of his friends that he never ceased to wonder at ‘all that incarnate delight’ of the Greek way of life. In fact, he was driven to the world of Greek Beauty because he wanted to escape imaginatively from the harsh realities of his present. It should, however, be noted that ‘Keats was a Greek’ because he could enter lovingly and imaginatively into the world of the ancients, and not because his knowledge of it was accurate and scholarly. We will write a custom essay sample on Keats hellenism or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page His presentation of Hallas is romantic and not realistic. Keats’ mind was saturated with Greek literature and mythology. He habitually chooses Greek stories for his poetry. Endymion. Hyperion, Lamia, Grecian Urn, Psyche etc,- all have the themes borrowed from the Greeks. The Grecian Urn is a monument of the poet’s power of entering imaginatively into another world. We as readers feel that we have been transported entirely to the Hellenic world of beauty, love, festivity and ritual. It is permeated through and through with the Greek spirit. It may also be noted that the ‘Ode’ form, which he made particularly his own and in which he excels all other English poets, is typically a Greek verse form. Moreover, there are countless allusions to Greek legends and stories in poems which are not directly based on Greek themes. He frequently refers at all places to Muses, Apollo, Pan, Narcissus, Endymion, Diana, and a number of other classical gods and goddesses. In Ode to Nightingale, we have references to Dryads (That thou, light-winged Dryad of the trees), the goddess Flora (Tasting of Flora and the country green), and Bacchus and his pards (Not charioted by Bacchus and his pards). In Ode on Melancholy, references are made to the river Lethe, goddess Proserpine and Psyche. These allusions are not mere conventional personifications as with other poets;  there is a tone of enjoyment in these allusions which shows that Greek mythology had really taken possession of his mind. The Greek temper of Keats is also revealed particularly in his joy in the Beauty of nature and his zest for an out of door life lived in her midst. Like the Greeks, Keats also takes a sensuous, childlike pleasure in the forms, colours, scents and sounds of nature and sees a god or goddess behind every object and phenomenon of the external world. The following lines can be cited in this regard- And haply the Queen –Moon is on her throne, Cluster’d around by all her starry Fays; The Greeks had a zest for life in nature and loved the activities of such life; but they also loved the serenity and quiet of pastoral life. Both these aspects are combined vividly in the Ode on a Grecian Urn. For example, the scenario of the Bacchanalian procession consisting of the flute players, the youth singing under the tree, and the lover about to kiss represent the joy of youth and its energy. On the other hand, the picture of the lowing heifer being led to the sacrificial altar represents the charm of a serene and quiet life. In fact, in his worship of Beauty, Keats justifies the remark of Shelley that he was a Greek. The Hellenic spirit was re-incarnated in Keats. Through his contact with Greek sculptures, he imbibed, as if by instinct, the classical discipline, simplicity and austerity. He was basically a romantic, and in the beginning his art is characterized by the romantic excess. But at times, he could achieve the clearness of outline, the directness and restraint and the austerity and finish of the classics. As Matthew Arnold points out, the last three lines of the Ode on a Grecian Urn, ‘is as Greek as anything from Homer or Theocritus’. Similarly the stanza of this Ode beginning, ‘Who are those coming to the sacrifice’ has been described as having ‘the clear radiance of Greek style’. In his description, Keats often achieves not only clarity, directness and simplicity, but also the happy combination of movement with repose which characterizes Greek art. For example, in the Ode on Melancholy we get; ‘Beauty that must die And Joy, whose hand is ever at his lips  bidding adieu’ Keats also has the passion for perfection of the Greeks. He has the epigrammatic terseness and brevity of the Greeks. Phrases like ‘drowsy numbness’, ‘leaden-eyed despair’, ‘leaf-fringed legends’, ‘cold pastoral, ‘wakeful anguish of the soul’ etc bear enough testimony to this. The opening two lines of the Ode on a Grecian Urn have even been called by Rossetti as the ‘Pillars of Hercules of the human language’. However, this Greek note in Keats’ poetry should not be exaggerated. He surely has the romantic melancholy, romantic exuberance and the love of colour and pageantry of the romantics. As a matter of fact, he got his knowledge of Greek mythology and literature through the study of the Elizabethans and in the process also imbibed their romanticism. In his poetry, we find a rare combination of classicism with romanticism. As Legoius and Cazamian put it, ‘ Keats affects the rare union of classical discipline, guided by the examples and precepts of the ancients, with the more intrinsically precious matter, which the artist finds in romanticism’. We may also add that he is not always content with the enjoyment merely of the beauty of form. He often tries to penetrate to the real significance and truth which may lie at the back of formal beauty.

Malcolm X Essays (621 words) - Nation Of Islam,

Malcolm X All men are created equal. This statement was the basis of the civil right movements of the 1960's. Malcom X is a man that promoted a society in which all human beings were equally respected. He believes that blacks should achieve that goal by any means necessary. In a time when blacks were not allowed to sit in the front of the bus, using the same bathroom, or were not admitted to Universities. Malcom X's cry of justice was believed to be the voice of all blacks behind closed doors. Malcom Little grew up as poor and did not have much parental support. His father was run over by a street car when he was six. Soon after his father's death, his mother was put in a mental hospital. He grew up in East Lansing and Boston. He was a pimp, a hustler, drug user, and a drug dealer. He worked in the Harlem underworld and was almost killed by his boss after he betrayed him. Malcom turned to robbery and was caught by the police and sentenced to 10 years of hard labor. While in jail, he was introduced to the Nation of Islam, a Black Muslim group, and changed his name to Malcom X. The X replaced the slave name that was given by the white masters and stands for the his real name that he never knew. After his release from prison he started preaching for the Nation of Islam (NOI). His preaching was known for its hatred overtone. He describes America as a house with a "bomb" inside and it is about to explode. Unless the white people want the house to explode and kill everyone inside, they should take the bomb out and give it a house of their own. His speeches were very popular among angry blacks and he was frequently on the front page of the newspaper. It was rumored that other Nation of Islam members were jealous about his popularity and worried about the power he was gaining. After the JFK assassination, Malcom stated: "President Kennedy never foresaw that the chickens would come home to roost so soon... Being an old farm boy myself, chickens coming home to roost never did make me sad; they always made me glad." After many death calls from irritated Whites, The Nation of Islam started to distance themselves from Malcom. There was already friction between The Nation of Islam and they did not want the Nation of Islam to get a bad name because of Malcom. Feeling pressure to leave and felt betrayed by his church, he started the Organization of Afro-American Unity. They had the commitment to "doing whatever is necessary to bring the Negro struggle from the level of civil rights to the level of human rights." While making a speech in the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem on Feb 21, 1965 he was assassinated by 3 persons all belonging to the NOI. Whether you like him or not, Malcom X was charismatic leader that said the many things that had to be said in the midst of the civil rights movement. "By any means necessary! I'm for freedom. I'm for a society in which our people are recognized and respected as human beings, and I believe that we have the right to resort to any means necessary to bring that about." -Malcom X, interview with Claude Lewis (December 1964) This statement and others helped propel the recognition of prejudice in the heart of America. Whenever I research into a past leader I always feel a great sadness that a great mind has perished with the person. But in this one case, there is a small sense of relief. Violence bleeds violence. 3 men whom he has preached gunned down a man that has preached violence to advance his cause. They stood over his body and emptied their guns. I hope all people can learn from this and move forward together as a nation in peace.
